Can I use VA disability or pension income for rent?

Yes. Many providers count VA disability compensation and VA pension like any other steady monthly income.

Is Ready Rooms part of the VA?

No. Ready Rooms is an independent Texas nonprofit, not affiliated with or endorsed by the VA. It doesn't process claims or vouchers.

Do HUD-VASH vouchers work at every property?

No - only at properties participating in HUD-VASH through a local housing authority.

Can I combine VA and Social Security income?

Yes. Many veterans use both, and providers can consider total monthly income.

VA income as rent income

VA disability compensation is a monthly, tax-free benefit. Many providers count it like Social Security or SSDI. Combining VA disability with Social Security is common - see fixed-income housing.

HUD-VASH, SSVF, and GPD
  • HUD-VASH - a housing voucher plus VA case management; it works only at participating properties.
  • SSVF - rapid re-housing and homelessness prevention through local nonprofits.
  • GPD - time-limited transitional housing.
