What’s the difference between home care and home health care?

Home care

Non-medical help with everyday living at home: bathing and dressing, meals, housekeeping, companionship, errands and reminders. This is what Ready Rooms home care requests focus on.

Home health care

Skilled clinical care at home, such as nursing or therapy, usually ordered by a doctor and delivered by licensed professionals. If that’s needed, the person’s doctor, hospital or discharge planner typically arranges it.

Helping a client find support at home?

Social workers, case managers and discharge planners can use the request form above - choose “Client” under Who needs care. Looking for housing for a client instead? Submit a housing referral.

Home care questions

What is home care?

Home care is non-medical help with everyday living, provided in the person’s own home - things like bathing and dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, companionship, errands and medication reminders.

What can a home-care provider help with?

Depending on the provider: bathing and dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, companionship, mobility assistance, transportation and errands, medication reminders, respite for family caregivers and overnight support. Services vary by provider.

Who can request home care through Ready Rooms?

Anyone in Texas looking for help at home: the person who needs care, a family member or friend, or a professional such as a social worker, case manager or discharge planner helping a client.

Does Ready Rooms provide the caregiver?

No. Care is provided by home-care providers in our network, not by Ready Rooms. Ready Rooms reviews your request and helps identify providers that may fit what’s needed.

How much does home care cost?

Pricing is set by each provider and depends on the services, the schedule and the level of help needed. The provider will explain costs and what payment options they accept before care starts.

How quickly can care start?

It depends on the provider’s availability and the help that’s needed. Ready Rooms reviews requests and follows up with next steps; the provider confirms start dates directly.

What if I need a new place to live instead of help at home?

Ready Rooms also helps people find housing across Texas - including homes with more day-to-day support. Get matched with housing or see personal care and supportive housing.
