Questions people ask

Is this the same as a Medicaid waiver (HCS) residential program?

No. HCS and other Medicaid waiver services go through your LIDDA. Ready Rooms helps you explore housing in our network - some providers accept Medicaid / HCS funding, and you can pursue both at the same time.

What is IDD housing?

Housing for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities - from shared homes paid with SSI to state-funded residential services through a LIDDA.

Can Ready Rooms put us on the HCS interest list?

No. Contact your LIDDA - it handles eligibility and interest lists for publicly funded IDD programs.

Can a parent or guardian submit the request?

Yes, with the person's permission or legal authority.

Two separate paths

Publicly funded IDD services start with your Local Intellectual and Developmental Disability Authority (LIDDA), which enrolls eligible people in programs like HCS, TxHmL, and ICF/IID. HCS and TxHmL use statewide interest lists. Find your LIDDA.

Housing paid with SSI or family support is where Ready Rooms helps.

Questions to ask a provider

  • How many residents live there?
  • How does the provider communicate with a guardian or payee?
What to tell us
  • Level of daily support and supervision needed
  • Income: SSI, SSDI, family support
  • Guardian or representative payee contact
  • Current services or service coordinator, and timing
Need hands-on personal care?
