As the Texas state capital, Austin is home to the state health and human services agencies that coordinate housing statewide, plus a dense local network - Integral Care, ECHO's Coordinated Entry System, hospitals like Ascension Seton, Dell Seton Medical Center, and St. David's HealthCare, and reentry programs, each with its own intake process. Ready Rooms doesn't replace that network; it gives Travis County case managers and agency staff one submission for clients who don't fit neatly into any single agency's lane.
Where Ready Rooms fits
Travis County's official response to homelessness runs through ECHO (Ending Community Homelessness Coalition), the lead agency for the Austin/Travis County Continuum of Care. ECHO operates a Coordinated Entry System that assesses and prioritizes people who are literally homeless or at imminent risk. It's a well-built system - but it's designed for that specific population, and eligibility and wait times reflect it. Many of the people Austin-area case managers refer to us don't fit that lane: a stable but limited income, a past eviction or credit issue, a hospital discharge deadline this week, or a reentry timeline that can't wait for a coordinated-entry queue. Ready Rooms exists for exactly that gap.
Behavioral health & reentry in Travis County
Integral Care is Travis County's local mental health authority, operating the region's 988 crisis line and serving as the point of entry for public behavioral health and IDD services. We accept housing referrals for clients already connected to Integral Care's case managers.
The Travis County Reentry Resource Guide lists dozens of organizations supporting people returning home after incarceration. Rather than working through that list one call at a time, reentry case managers can send a single housing referral to Ready Rooms.
As the seat of Texas state government, Austin is home to the agencies that set housing and benefits policy statewide. Caseworkers at state offices can refer clients directly for placement in Travis County or elsewhere in Texas.

Bad or no credit, past evictions and broken leases, criminal history including felony backgrounds, limited or fixed income (SSI, SSDI, VA benefits), and missing documentation don't automatically rule someone out - tell us your situation and we'll look at what may still be available.
Whatever you have is a fine starting point - a photo ID and any income or benefits documentation speeds things up, but missing paperwork doesn't stop the process.
