Questions people ask

Does Ready Rooms provide mental health treatment?

No. Ready Rooms is a housing navigation organization. Treatment comes from your provider or local mental health authority.

Do I have to share my diagnosis?

No. Share the support or setting that helps you; a diagnosis isn't required.

Is this the same as IDD housing?

No - intellectual and developmental disabilities involve different services. See IDD housing.

Housing options
  • Independent shared housing - for people who manage their own medications, appointments, and routine.
  • Homes with more structure - house rules, a house manager, or provider-listed supports like case management. These aren't clinical care - ask what's offered.
Where treatment comes from

Ongoing treatment continues with your own provider or your county's local mental health authority (LMHA). HHSC contracts with 37 LMHAs and two local behavioral health authorities statewide.

What to tell us
  • What setting helps: quiet house, private room, staff nearby, near your clinic or bus line
  • Whether you manage your own medications
  • Your case manager or provider, if you have one
  • Income (SSI, SSDI, job) and any discharge date
Leaving a hospital?

Discharge planners can refer before the discharge date so the search starts early. Income from SSI or SSDI is accepted by many providers.

Referring someone? Hospital social workers, LMHA case managers, peer specialists

Include the discharge or move-in date, area, income, and the level of independence and support needed. You'll confirm you have the person's permission (or documented authority) to share their information with housing providers.
