Questions people ask

Does Ready Rooms provide personal care?

No. Ready Rooms doesn't provide care. We look for homes in our network that may offer the level of help needed, explain what each type of Texas home can legally provide, and can sometimes point you to home health partners.

What is a personal care home in Texas?

People use the term loosely. Under Texas law, a place giving food, shelter, and personal care or medication administration to four or more unrelated people is an assisted living facility and must be licensed.

Is a boarding home the same as assisted living?

No. A boarding home can help with meals, housework, and self-administering medication, but doesn't provide personal care.

Texas terms, plainly
Type of homeWhat it can provide
Supportive shared homeA room and house rules, sometimes meals or a house manager. No hands-on personal care.
Boarding home facilityLodging for 3+ elderly people or people with disabilities, with meals, housework, or help self-administering medication - no personal care (H&S Code ch. 260).
Assisted living facilityFood and shelter for 4+ unrelated people plus personal care or medication administration. Must be licensed (H&S Code ch. 247).
Home health in a residenceVisiting aides or nursing from a licensed agency, separate from the housing.

Personal care services means help with feeding, dressing, moving, bathing, or other personal needs, or general supervision of well-being (§247.002).

Check a license yourself

Use Texas HHSC's Long-term Care Provider Search to look up licensed assisted living facilities. Ready Rooms doesn't verify licenses unless stated.

Ask the provider
  • Exactly what help is provided - bathing, dressing, meals, medication reminders, or administration?
  • Is staff on site and awake overnight?
  • Licensed? What type and license number?
  • What's included in the monthly cost?
  • Do you accept Medicaid, SSI, VA benefits, or private pay?
Only need a little help?

A shared home plus a visiting home health aide can work. Request help through Find Home Care, or see senior housing.

Referring someone? Hospital and rehab discharge planners, service coordinators, families

Include the discharge or move-in date, area, payment source, and the specific daily help needed. You'll confirm you have the person's permission (or documented authority) to share their information with housing providers.
